Trio kidnaps and stabs carpenter, flees with cash, phone; 1 held
MUMBAI, Aug. 22 -- Three men attacked a 19-year-old carpenter with a knife on Thursday near Wadala Monorail station in Kokri Agar, Wadala East, and fled with his mobile handset and Rs.10,000 in cash. According to the Wadala Truck Terminus police, the complainant, Irfan Shaikh, a resident of Lalubhai Compound, Govandi, had gone to a friend's place for dinner and was walking back home when the men intercepted him.
"Two people arrived on a bike, forced him to sit on the vehicle, and took him to an isolated place, where another accused was waiting. The trio threatened him with a knife and snatched his phone and cash," said a police officer. "When the complainant told them he would complain to the police, they stabbed him on his head, chest and back."
Police further said that Shaikh went home after the incident and narrated the ordeal to his family members, who then took him to Sion hospital. Meanwhile, residents of the area, who heard about the incident, made their own enquiries and zeroed in on a few suspects from the locality. They showed Shaikh some photographs from which he identified a certain 'Vingya' as one of the accused. They informed the police about the identified accused, who then arrested Yogesh alias Vingya Kumar Devendra, 19, a resident of Wadala East.
