PUNE, Aug. 30 -- Tribal students protesting in various parts of Maharashtra ended their 16-day hunger strike on Saturday after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting with student representatives and accepted their demands. This follows the Bombay high court asking the state to prioritise the well-being of tribal students, and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's open letter urging Fadnavis to intervene. The students started their agitation on August 13 over changes in government tribal hostel rules. Their demands subsequently expanded to related issues, including compensation for families of three tribal girls who died of snakebite at an ashram school in Gadchiroli.
