Trekker's death probed as murder; fiancee held
Pune, June 24 -- What seemed to be an accidental fatal fall during a trek to the Lohagad fort in Pune district five days ago is now being investigated as a cold-blooded murder perpetrated by the victim's fiancee and her boyfriend.
Police on Tuesday arrested 20-year-old Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, 22, for the murder of Ketan Agarwal, 25, with whom Siya had gotten engaged in February this year.
While the police had initially registered an accidental death report, statements of Agarwal's family members made them realise something was amiss, according to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill.
Ketan, police said, was a regular trekker at Lohagad and was well-versed with the terrain. His family too raised certain suspicions about Siya, after which the police examined her phone and looked at other forensic details.
After call detail records placed Chetan at the same spot at the time of Ketan's death, the duo were interrogated, following which police claimed they confessed to the crime. P5...
