Trainee doctor suspended after newborn dies in Thane civil hosp
THANE, June 10 -- A trainee doctor at Thane Civil Hospital has been suspended following allegations of medical negligence after a newborn died in the hospital's Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).
According to hospital officials, a woman from Shivaji Nagar in Wagle Estate was admitted for delivery on Saturday and gave birth to a baby boy. The newborn was subsequently shifted to the SNCU for treatment and monitoring.
On Tuesday, when the mother went to breastfeed the infant, she allegedly found him in a critical condition. The baby died shortly thereafter.
The infant's family alleged negligence by hospital staff and demanded action against those responsible.
Following the incident, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Kedar Dighe and Mahesh Kadam visited the hospital and sought an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death.
After protests, the hospital administration suspended trainee doctor Zeeshan Ansari, who was allegedly on duty in the SNCU at the time of the incident, pending an inquiry.
The work on the new building of Thane Civil Hospital has already been completed but is yet to be operational. At present, it is functioning from the Regional Mental Hospital....
