togo-flagged vessel STRUCK by projectiles, 3 on board injured
M, April 27 -- Three crew members aboard a Togo-flagged oil/cheminal tanker were injured after the vessel was hit by projectiles or shrapnel in the West Asia war zone, the directorate general of shipping confirmed on Sunday.
According to a statement, the incident took place somewhere in the Iran-US/Israel war zone, involving MT Chiron 7. The vessel was not directly targeted but sustained damage to its navigation bridge area, leaving three crew members injured. No fatalities were reported and the remaining crew are safe, the statement added.
It was not immediately known if any of the injured crew members were Indians.
The report came amid rising maritime risks in the region. Authorities said a total of two incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels and 12 involving foreign-flagged vessels with Indian crew have been recorded so far, resulting in three deaths, one person presumed dead, and seven injuries.
At present, 13 Indian vessels are operating in the Persian Gulf west of the Strait of Hormuz, four in the Gulf of Oman, one in the Gulf of Aden, and one in the Red Sea.
The report also mentions that 18 vessels have been identified for possible evacuation based on inputs from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. These include four LPG carriers, three LNG carriers and 11 crude oil tankers-four Indian-flagged and 14 foreign-flagged vessels....
