three dismissed GRP personnel arrested in extortion case
MUMBAI, June 5 -- The crime branch of the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday arrested three of its personnel who were dismissed from service for extorting a jeweller at Mumbai Central railway station last year, a week after the Supreme Court revoked their anticipatory bail.

While a sessions court rejected the three officers' pre-arrest bail pleas, the Bombay High Court allowed it in September 2025. The high court noted that there were no signs of distress on the jeweller's and his minor daughter's faces in CCTV footage of the alleged incident.
On May 27, the Supreme Court set aside the order and criticised the high court for what it termed a "cryptic order" based largely on CCTV footage, a delay in lodging the FIR, and the officers' clean service records....
