three constables arrested for helping murder accused escape
MUMBAI, May 22 -- Three police constables were arrested on Thursday for allegedly helping a murder accused escape from the Vasai court premises earlier this week after accepting bribes through online payments.
The accused, Ajay Soni, 47, who was facing trial in a 2009 murder case, escaped on Monday after being brought from Thane Jail to the Vasai Sessions Court for a hearing.
According to investigators, Soni asked to use the restroom after reaching the court premises. Police said he fled after one of the constables removed his handcuffs and got distracted while handling his brother, who was also in custody.
Investigators later found that the officers had allegedly accepted Rs.45,000 each through online transactions to facilitate their escape.
Scrutiny of their mobile phones revealed multiple financial transactions linked to the conspiracy.
Soni's wife, Sakshi Soni, and son, Atul Soni, were also arrested for allegedly bribing the policemen....
