Thailand-bound man held at airport with 7kg ketamine
MUMBAI, Oct. 2 -- The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs has seized 7 kg of suspected ketamine, valued at around Rs.21 crore in the illicit market, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and arrested a passenger who was bound for Phuket.
On September 30, AIU officers intercepted the passenger while he was attempting to board a flight to Phuket, following specific intelligence inputs. He and his baggage were offloaded for a detailed examination, which led to the recovery of 7 kg of a substance that tested positive for ketamine in preliminary testing. Ketamine is classified as a psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The passenger was arrested under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the substance and identify any possible links to an international drug trafficking network....
