Teen drowns in flooded ground in Nalasopara
Mumbai, July 9 -- A 13-year-old boy drowned after falling into a deep excavation pit hidden beneath floodwater while swimming with friends on a waterlogged open ground in Nalasopara East on Tuesday afternoon. His body was recovered nearly three hours later, and police registered an accidental death report.
The deceased, Naman Kesarwani, a resident of Jay Ambe Chawl in Garalpada, had gone to play with five friends.
The group reached an open ground at Walaipada around 2.30 pm. As the ground was inundated after prolonged rainfall, the boys entered the water to swim. Police said Naman slipped into a deep pit hidden beneath the floodwater and disappeared.
His friends searched for him before alerting local residents. A rescue team from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation fire brigade and Pelhar police launched a search operation. Naman's body was recovered around 5 pm.
