Stricter checks now for PM-inaugurated NHs
New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- Prime Minister-led inaugurations and foundation-stone ceremonies for national highway projects will now be subject to additional quality, safety and event-management guidelines, including possible independent audits of major projects and more intensive inspections after opening to traffic, according to a circular issued on Friday by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
This comes after the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April, recently developed potholes, cracks and a cave-in after intense rain.
NHAI also directed its media teams to proactively monitor print and digital media reports after such events and, in coordination with regional offices, prepare ready responses or "counter narratives" to address reports it considers "factually incorrect or politically motivated". In its policy circular, NHAI said the addendum followed a review of existing guidelines....
