State govt to issue guidelines for study tours
Mumbai, Oct. 3 -- The state government on Friday ordered a detailed probe into the drowning of eight students from Winners Academy, Alandi at Diveagar beach in Raigad on Thursday. The government has also directed the administration in Alandi on the outskirts of Pune to take strict action against organisers of the trip if found guilty.
Speaking to reporters, disaster management minister Girish Mahajan said that the government would issue guidelines for private coaching classes, schools and colleges organising study tours to ensure students' safety.
"I have contacted the Raigad district collector and superintendent of police and directed them to conduct a thorough inquiry. I have also instructed officials to look into the roles and responsibilities of the academy's office-bearers and take strict action against those found guilty," he said.
Mahajan said institutes taking students on trips to potentially dangerous locations must take full responsibility for their safety.
