State govt presents workplace safety awards to industries
Mumbai, April 12 -- The Maharashtra government on Saturday gave away 24 "Narayan Meghaji Lokhande Occupational Safety and Health Awards 2025" to industries across hazardous and non-hazardous sectors, emphasising the role of upcoming labour codes in strengthening workplace safety and compliance.
The awards were presented at an event organised by the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) under the state labour department at the Jio Convention Centre, with participation from nearly 1,600 industry representatives and senior government officials.
Labour minister Akash Fundkar said the Centre's consolidation of labour laws into four codes is intended to simplify regulation, enhance transparency and reinforce worker protections while facilitating ease of doing business.
Principal secretary I A Kundan said the new framework combines provisions on wages, industrial relations, social security and occupational safety, and is expected to improve working conditions.
Officials said the focus will be on effective implementation of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. The event also included a panel discussion and a training session.
To promote awareness about industrial safety, DISH also organised a "Run for OSH-2026" marathon on Saturday at Palm Beach Road, Navi Mumbai....
