NAVI MUMBAI, Aug. 22 -- An unidentified man, around 50, was killed after allegedly being knocked down by a speeding truck near the Vashi toll plaza on Thursday morning. The accident occurred around 6am on the Mumbai-bound lane, around 50 metres from the toll naka, following which the Vashi police booked the truck driver for alleged rash and negligent driving. The accused, Virendra Kumar Lalta Prasad Rajbhar, 36, a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, was driving a truck towards Mumbai when the accident occurred. Police said Rajbhar allegedly drove at a high speed and in a negligent manner and failed to pay attention to the road conditions. The truck hit the man who was standing on the road, leaving him seriously injured. The man sustained serious injuries and died, police said. The deceased has not yet been identified. According to police, the deceased was around 50 years old and about 5ft 5in tall. He was wearing blue shorts and a light-blue half-sleeved shirt at the time of the accident. He had an amulet around his neck tied with an orange thread and an orange thread around his left wrist.
