Spate of exits in environment ministry triggers buzz
New Delhi, July 8 -- The appointment of an assistant private secretary to the Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav, Siddharth Yadav, was terminated on Tuesday, according to a government order dated July 3, a move that comes a day after three other members of the minister's personal staff were either repatriated to their parent cadres, or saw their appointments terminated through separate orders, also dated July 3.
The Opposition has raised questions about purging the minister's entire personal staff, even as the ministry termed the move as an "administrative decision". The minister and his office did not comment on the development. Officials in the ministry also did not elaborate on the move, but reiterated it was an "administrative decision".
Vibhuti Paniyar, under secretary to the Government of India, issued all the orders.
Other than Siddharth Yadav, those whose appointments were terminated or who were repatriated are PS to the minister, Amar Singh (an IRS-IT officer of the 2010 batch), additional PS Shailesh Kumar Singh of the Central Secretariat Service (CSS), and another additional PS, Ayush Saran, a political member of the Minister's office.
Each minister's staff includes both government officers and political appointees. Ministers select these staff members after following the government's laid-down rules of service appointment.
None of the four has been replaced yet, even as it was business as usual at the ministry. The minister attended a large-scale plantation drive, the Mission 70 Lakh Plantation Drive under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in Delhi, alongside Union home minister Amit Shah , Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Officials later said the minister also took multiple meetings that day. "Work remains unaffected," an official added, asking not to be named....
