Skeletal remains of missing goon found in drain chamber
MUMBAI, June 6 -- Five months after alleged goon Ravi Bidlan went missing, his skeletal remains were found in the drainage chamber of a building in Nalasopara on Friday. The discovery was made after one of the alleged assailants blurted out details of his murder while on a drinking spree on Thursday.
On Friday evening, the accused, Sumit Azad Salasar alias 'Ba' was arrested while four of his alleged accomplices were detained, said senior police inspector Sumit Kumar Pawar.
According to the Achole police, Salasar was detained on Friday morning after Bidlan's wife was alerted by an acquaintance that he had been boasting about killing her husband and dumping his body in a drain. Salasar was arrested in the evening after confessing to the crime, police said.
Bidlan, 34, brother of a local BJP leader, was named as an accused in more than two dozen cases for alleged extortion, dacoity, attempted murder, rape, robbery, illegal possession of weapons, molestation, theft, assault and other offences. He was externed from the district last year. On January 26 this year, his family reported him missing.
Around 11pm on Thursday, Bidlan's wife - who contested the recent local body polls on a BJP ticket - approached the police and said that a drunk person was boasting about having killed her husband and dumping her body in a drain. When police and fire brigade personnel searched the drain in Achole, they found skeletal remains which they suspect were of Bidlan, as the tattered clothes found on the body were his, his wife said.
The retrieved skeleton was later sent for forensic analysis. Inspector Pawar said a case had been registered against more than five accused and further probe was on....
