Shardul named Mumbai Ranji captain
Mumbai, Sept. 27 -- India all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been named the Mumbai captain for the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Friday.
The 33-year-old had been anticipated to take over the post after it was vacated by veteran Ajinkya Rahane.
In August, 37-year-old Rahane had decided to step down from captaincy, announcing through a social media post that "it was time to groom a new leader."
Thakur, however, comes to the role with vast experience. He has played 97 games in first-class cricket, picking up 302 wickets while scoring 2,688. He also captained West Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
Thakur has played 13 Tests, 47 ODIs and 25 T20Is for India. He was part of the Indian team that toured England this year, playing two of the five Tests. He has been left out of the squad for the home Tests against West Indies.
The MCA also announced a 24-player probables list, adding in a statement that "players on national duty will be included as per their availability."...
