Shah pitches for leadership in lab-grown diamonds
MUMBAI, Sept. 14 -- On a visit to the Bharat Diamond Bourse in BKC to attend a felicitation programme, Amit Shah pitched for the emerging sector of lab-grown diamonds. The home minister said that India had the infrastructure, energy, capital and entrepreneurial strength to capitalise on the expected growth in the global lab-grown diamond market and become a leader.
"India should build the entire value chain for lab-grown diamonds domestically-from manufacturing the machinery required to produce them to jewellery manufacturing, branding, showrooms and global sales," he said. He urged Indian companies to scale up operations, create global brands and establish their own sales centres in major international cities, assuring the industry of the Centre's support.
Shah also promised the gems and jewellery industry a large tract of land and the required FSI in Navi Mumbai....
