Mumbai, Aug. 23 -- In her latest post on social media, Serena Williams announced that she had lost 31 pounds (or 14 kgs) in an incredible weight loss journey. The former world No.1 tennis star and 23-time winner of 23 Grand Slam singles titles, retired from the professional tour almost three years ago. The mother of two has kept up a strict fitness regimen, but, she recently revealed that her recent weight loss was aided by the use of a GLP-1 drug. "I feel great. I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally," Williams, 43, said to People Magazine. "I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained. It was crazy because I'd never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at." Williams explained that her struggles with weight began after the birth of her first daughter Olympia in 2017. But almost six months after her second child, Adira River, was born in August 2023, the four-time Olympic gold medallist started using the drug via injections. GLP-1, or Glucagon-Like Peptide-1, was originally developed for type 2 diabetes patients. The drug impacts the appetite, making the user feel full faster and decreases cravings. Williams started taking the drug through telehealth company Ro. She is now an ambassador for the company while her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, is a board member and investor at the firm....
