Satwik-Chirag stunned in R1 at All England
Mumbai, March 5 -- World No.4 pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were handed an upset defeat by the teenaged Malaysian pair Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai in first round of the All England Open in Birmingham on Wednesday.
In a match that lasted 42 minutes, the 2024 Junior World Championship gold medallists - both 19-years-old - beat the former world No.1 team 23-21, 21-12.
The reigning Asian Games gold medallists from India were not the only players from the country to lose their opening match of the contest on Wednesday.
The mixed doubles team of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde lost to fifth seeded French team Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue 12-21, 15-21. Meanwhile in men's singles, world No.22 Ayush Shetty lost 21-19, 9-21, 17-21 to world No.14 Alwi Farhan of Indonesia in a match that lasted an hour and 15 minutes.
Only two Indian entries remain active in the contest.
World No.12 Lakshya Sen, who stunned world No.1 Shi Yu Qi in the first round will play Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus in the second round on Thursday. In the mixed doubles event, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila take on Hong Kong's seventh seeds Tse Ying Suet and Tang Chun Man....
