MUMBAI, Aug. 1 -- Seven people, including the alleged mastermind, have been arrested for attempting to murder a factory owner in Vasai East. Investigators said the attack stemmed from a financial dispute between business partners. According to the police, two unidentified men on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on Mohansingh Laxmansingh Parmar, a partner at GSM Foils Ltd in Diamond Industrial Estate, Vasai East, on July 25. The incident took place when Parmar stepped out of his factory and was walking towards his car to leave for home. He sustained serious injuries in the attack, including head injuries, and was admitted to a hospital in Nalasopara for treatment. The investigation revealed that Parmar and the prime accused, Sagar Girish Bhansali, were partners in the company. Police said Bhansali had suffered heavy losses after investing in international stock markets following the conflict between the US and Iran, leaving him with debts of around Rs.35 crore. To resolve the financial crisis, Bhansali allegedly persuaded Parmar to buy his shares in the company. Parmar subsequently paid him about Rs.32 crore. Investigators alleged that Bhansali then conspired to have Parmar killed to avoid repaying the amount and to gain complete control of the business. Acting on intelligence from local informants, police tracked Bhansali and his associates to Uttar Pradesh. A team was then dispatched on Tuesday and all seven of the accused were arrested. "Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the case has links to a larger financial, commercial or organised crime conspiracy," said Sanjay Shintre, Additional Commissioner of Police, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police....
