Mumbai, June 18 -- A religious event inside the office of the director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) under the University of Mumbai has sparked a controversy, with the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) demanding an inquiry and the resignation of director Shivaji Sargar.
MNVS argued that activities like 'pooja' and 'havan' are inappropriate in a public educational institution and cited government guidelines discouraging religious events on government premises.
The student body linked the controversy to incidents such as an alleged paper leak and reported use of AI-generated study material.
MNVS state secretary Nitin Nanavare said that after the M.Com Semester III (Accounts-NEP) results were declared on June 11, the university opened the final round of ATKT form submissions but gave students very little time to submit their responses and charged a late fee. "Instead of addressing these concerns, a religious ceremony was organised in the director's office," he said.
While responding to the issue, an MU official said, "It was a voluntary goodwill gathering marking the beginning of the academic year. The center functioned normally, and our focus remains on our students."...
