pre-monsoon drizzle amid high humidity
Mumbai, May 23 -- Light drizzle greeted parts of Mumbai's eastern suburbs, including Mulund, Nahur and Kanjurmarg, on Friday morning, signalling the onset of pre-monsoon activity in the city amid persistently high humidity levels. Humidity in the suburbs remained around 74% through the day. In south Mumbai, humidity dropped from 83% at 8.30 am to 68% by 5.30 pm.
"Westerlies are bringing in a lot of moisture that is leading to increase in humidity levels and discomfort. It's a normal phenomenon during the transition period to the monsoon season," said Sushma Nair, senior scientist, IMD.
Maximum temperatures stayed within normal range on Friday. Santacruz recorded 34.5degC, while Colaba recorded 35degC. However, night temperatures in the suburbs remained above normal. Santacruz recorded a minimum temperature of 29degC, which was 1.2 degrees above normal, while south Mumbai recorded 28degC....
