Pre-monsoon checks to be held in CSMIA on May 7; ops shut for 6 hrs
Mumbai, April 21 -- The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will undertake its annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance on May 7, during which both its primary runway (09/27) and secondary runway (14/32) will remain non-operational between 11 am and 5 pm.
The airport authorities said the planned shutdown is part of a comprehensive monsoon preparedness exercise. Consultations with airlines and stakeholders were held six months in advance, allowing carriers to recalibrate flight schedules and minimise disruption to passengers.
The annual exercise is aimed at ensuring the durability and safety of the airport's airside infrastructure, which spans over 1,033 acres. During the six-hour window, experts will carry out detailed inspections of runway surfaces to detect wear and tear and undertake preventive measures to ensure safe take-offs and landings during the monsoon.
CSMIA said it will deploy modern equipment and follow a tightly coordinated plan to complete the maintenance within the scheduled timeframe....
