Mumbai, July 24 -- With a cargo ship floating on choppy monsoon-affected Mumbai waters in the background, the convention centre in Ballard Pier was abuzz on Thursday. Eight pickleball courts had been prepared with 87 players from across the city descending upon the NautiPickle centre to compete in the Mumbai leg of the Pickleball Now Grand Prix. With matches taking place across eight different categories, the winners of the men's and women's open singles events were set to earn a spot in the auction for the second season of the Indian Pickleball League (IPBL). There, they stand a chance of being picked by one of the six teams for this year's edition. The auction is set to take place in September-end. But it is not just the winners of the Mumbai leg that will earn a chance to get picked in the auction. The Grand Prix will also have competitions held in Noida, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Gurugram with each of the men's and women's open singles winners earning a shot at the auction. The Mumbai Smashers team, led by Vietnamese player Quang Duong, won the inaugural title in December. htc...
