Mumbai, Sept. 27 -- The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for rains in Mumbai and Thane from Saturday to Monday, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Raigad has been cautioned under red alert on Sunday, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Palghar on Sunday and Monday, indicating heavy rainfall. An IMD official said the intensification is due to a northwestward movement of a weather system from the Bay of Bengal toward Maharashtra.
