Mumbai, July 30 -- On the occasion of Guru Purnima, a steady flow of star cricketers took time to reach Shivaji Park and pay their respects to the memorial of revered coach, the late Dronacharya Ramakant Achrekar, on Wednesday. His most illustrious student, Sachin Tendulkar, was among the first to arrive at 5:30 am. "No matter how many years pass, I'll always feel like I have one more 'thank you' left to say. Happy Guru Purnima, Achrekar Sir," Tendulkar said in a heartfelt tribute to his guru. In the evening, some other students who made their coach equally proud - Amol Muzumdar, Chandrakant Pandit and Pravin Amre - turned up at the memorial to offer tributes at an event organised by Achrekar's family members. "For whatever success I got as a player and as a coach, I give entire credit to Achrekar sir," said Muzumdar, the coach of the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup winning India team. The legendary coach trained over a dozen international cricketers. "We can have a coaches' XI of Achrekar sir's students. He has not only made cricketers but also coaches, that is his greatness. For us it is a proud moment to see Amol winning the maiden Women's World Cup," said Amre. Domestic cricket's most successful coach, Pandit, said: "It is a perfect start to the new season with sir's blessings. He always tried to promote players who showed spark. I have tried to use the same approach."...
