MUMBAI, July 4 -- Makers of 'energy drinks' have been told to stop calling their products by this name as such a classification does not exist under the law, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They have also barred such drinks from being sold within a radius of 500 metres around schools.
"According to our regulations, 'energy drinks' is not a category. Hence, manufacturers have been told to desist from labelling their products as such," FDA commissioner Tukaram Munde said on Friday. The matter was also raised in the legislature on Friday, with MLAs flagging the sale of products such as 'Sting', 'Cutting Paan' and flavoured milk outside schools.
