Mumbai, May 14 -- Badminton's new format, from the 3x21 to 3x15 scoring system, will affect the soul of the game, felt Aparna Popat, the two-time Olympian and nine-time national champion.
"You just can't keep experimenting," said Popat, speaking at The Legends Club meeting at the CCI to celebrate the 93rd birth anniversary of Indian badminton great Nandu Natekar.
"I think the problems will remain-court conditions, shuttles being extremely slow in certain events, having this break every now and then, which will hamper the rhythm of the players. We're not even talking about 15 points, we're talking a break at 8. I think the soul of the game is definitely getting affected."
Other distinguished badminton players and coaches in the panel discussion, Anil Pradhan, Uday Pawar and Pradeep Gandhe, also expressed reservations about the changes. htc...
