Pune, June 3 -- Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sunil Tingre on Tuesday announced his withdrawal from the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) poll race and extended support to the party leadership's decision on candidate selection. Tingre said he would place the party unity and organisational strength above personal aspirations. "For me, the party and its workers are most important. I respect the decision taken by the party leadership and will work wholeheartedly for the victory of NCP," Tingre said. The announcement came amid intense political activity within the NCP over the party's nominee for the Pune Legislative Council seat. Tingre was considered one of the frontrunners for the candidature. However, party leadership eventually finalised Vikram Kakade's name for the candidature even as Tingre, too, filed his nomination with his supporters, angry over the announcement of Kakade's name. The decision to nominate Kakade had sparked resentment within the Pune unit, as Kakade was not even a member of the party when he was chosen.
