Navi Mumbai civic body unveils Rs.6.7k-cr budget
Navi Mumbai, March 31 -- The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Monday presented a Rs.6,704.82 crore budget for 2026-27, outlining an infrastructure-led growth strategy focused on strengthening revenue without imposing additional taxes and introducing long-term urban planning.
The budget is the civic body's first after six years of administrator rule and was tabled by Standing Committee chairman Ashok Patil at a special meeting chaired by mayor Sujata Patil under a revised system where estimates are finalised by the panel.
Total receipts are pegged at Rs.6,704.82 crore, including an opening balance of Rs.1,265.83 crore and revenue income of Rs.4,337.82 crore, along with Rs.491.79 crore in government grants, Rs.104.99 crore in capital receipts, Rs.400 crore through bonds and Rs.100 crore via loans. The expenditure reflects a strong infrastructure push, with Rs.3,551.65 crore allocated to capital works against about Rs.3,239 crore in revenue spending, while revised estimates for 2025-26 have been reduced to Rs.4,564 crore from Rs.5,648 crore.
Patil said the policy of no additional taxation, associated with senior BJP leader and minister Ganesh Naik, will continue. Revenue will instead be enhanced through improved collections, service charges and a review of property tax in industrial and commercial segments, alongside PPP models and municipal bonds, including Rs.200 crore each through general and green bonds.
Key projects include signal-free corridors on Palm Beach Road and Thane-Belapur Road through flyovers and junction redesign, along with flood mitigation works such as stormwater drainage upgrades, desilting and lake interlinking. Water management plans include regularising unauthorised connections, bulk supply from Boshir and Shelar and reuse through tertiary treatment.
The budget also emphasises long-term "One Time Planning", environmental sustainability, digital governance, a structured parking policy and a Rs.2,192 crore waste management project.
Officials said the focus will remain on execution and timely delivery of projects, with monitoring mechanisms to track progress. The civic body also aims to position Navi Mumbai as a key data centre hub by ensuring infrastructure support, including treated wastewater for industrial use, while strengthening air quality monitoring and expanding green cover across nodes....
