NAVI MUMBAI, Aug. 4 -- A 22-year-old man from Thane died after slipping off a cliff while trekking near Zenith Waterfall in Khalapur taluka of Raigad district early on Monday, police said. The deceased, identified as Abhishek Kushwaha, a resident of Dhokali Naka in Thane (West), had visited the popular monsoon destination with a group of friends when the incident occurred. According to police, the accident took place around 5am. Preliminary investigations suggest that Kushwaha got separated from his friends while exploring the area and lost his footing on the rocky terrain near the waterfall, falling into a gorge. "He suffered severe head injuries and multiple abrasions in the fall. His friends found him unconscious and rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival," the investigating officer said. The incident was reported by the victim's elder brother, Akash Kushwaha, 24.
