LPG cylinders swept into Raigad river after HPCL plant floods
NAVI MUMBAI, July 9 -- Adding to the disruption caused by the relentless rain, around 3,000 LPG cylinders were swept into the Patalganga River after floodwaters inundated Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd's (HPCL) bottling plant at Chawane in Panvel taluka on Tuesday.
The Raigad district administration has issued a public safety advisory, urging residents not to touch any cylinders found floating in the river or washed ashore.
According to the district administration, the HPCL bottling facility in Additional MIDC, Chawane, was flooded following incessant rain, washing away around 3,000 LPG cylinders, including both filled and empty ones.
Raigad collector Kishan Jawale urged residents not to touch or handle any cylinders found floating in the river or washed ashore, warning that some may still contain LPG and pose a serious safety risk.
"The public should not touch the cylinders. Anyone who comes across such cylinders should immediately hand them over to the administration," Jawale said.
The administration has asked people to deposit recovered cylinders at the HPCL plant, the nearest HPCL LPG dealer, the Tahsildar's offices at Khalapur or Pen, or the office of the sub-divisional officer in Pen. Officials said the advisory was issued to ensure the safe recovery of the cylinders and prevent accidents. Authorities are coordinating with HPCL to trace and retrieve the missing stock....
