LPG-cylinder theft racket busted; history-sheeter held
Mumbai, April 6 -- A history-sheeter was arrested on Saturday by Powai police in connection with an alleged LPG-cylinder theft racket operating across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. Police recovered 45 stolen gas cylinders during the investigation.
The accused, identified as Raj Chandrakant Kamble,18, from Thane, was apprehended during an investigation into a stolen Suzuki Burgman motorcycle case, police said. The complaint for the stolen vehicle was filed last week.
According to police, CCTV surveillance and informant inputs revealed that the vehicle was used to transport stolen gas cylinders across multiple locations.
Kamble allegedly has a history of theft, with at least 15 cases registered against him across Powai, Shivaji Park, Kamothe, and Park Site police stations.
The accused allegedly targeted LPG cylinders due to their high market demand amid the ongoing supply strain.
Police said, efforts are underway to identify and apprehend any other accomplices....
