Mumbai, Aug. 11 -- Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre is set for international expansion for the first time, with a super-speciality outpatient department (OPD) scheduled to open in Almaty, Kazakhstan in September. The hospital signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with its Kazakhstan partner in Mumbai on Monday. The management provided no further information regarding its partner. Dr. Ravindra Karanjekar, CEO of Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, said the hospital was in talks to expand into several other countries, including Uzbekistan, Oman, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. He cited "quicker response" as the reason for choosing Kazakhstan for the hospital's first international expansion. Dr. Karanjekar further said the hospital also plans domestic expansion, including a 300-bed cancer care hospital in Ahmedabad and similar projects planned for New Delhi and Indore over the next two years.
