Labourer falls to death from SRA bldg
Mumbai, July 10 -- A 34-year-old labourer died after falling from an under-construction Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building in Wadala on Thursday, police said.
The deceased, Dharmendra Prajapati, was a native of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and worked as a labourer at the site. His family stays there.
Police suspect Prajapati fell from the building allegedly because it did not have a protective terrace wall.
Prajapati's family alleged they were informed about the incident several hours later.
Police, however, said the delay occurred because the contractor, who had identified the deceased, was stranded in Vasai due to heavy rain and could not be contacted as his mobile phone was switched off.
Police said an FIR will be registered against the contractor for alleged negligence.
"It is an SRA building where three additional floors are being constructed after residents had already occupied the building," a police officer said....
