Jishnu Dev Varma is Maha governor
MUMBAI, March 6 -- Jishnu Dev Varma, 68, has been appointed the new governor of Maharashtra, according to a press communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday evening. Varma has been serving as the governor of Telangana since July 31, 2024.
He will replace Acharya Devvrat, who has been serving as the Maharashtra governor, as an additional charge. Devvrat took over the position on September 15, 2025, while continuing to serve as Gujarat Governor.
A politician from Tripura, Varma served as the deputy chief minister of the state. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1993 and since then held several positions in the organisation and later several ministerial positions in the government such as finance, panchayat, rural development, power, science and technology, among others....
