MUMBAI, March 6 -- Jishnu Dev Varma, 68, has been appointed the new governor of Maharashtra, according to a press communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday evening. Varma has been serving as the governor of Telangana since July 31, 2024. He will replace Acharya Devvrat, who has been serving as the Maharashtra governor, as an additional charge. Devvrat took over the position on September 15, 2025, while continuing to serve as Gujarat Governor. A politician from Tripura, Varma served as the deputy chief minister of the state.
