Insta suspends Cong account; party calls it dictatorship
MUMBAI, May 14 -- Social media platform Instagram suspended Maharashtra Congress's account -- @INCMaharashtra - on Wednesday on grounds that it "had not followed community standards on dangerous individuals and organizations". Dealing with the fallout, Congress has alleged that this was the government's move to choke the voice of the opposition.
Instagram has given the party 180 days to appeal against the action, failing which the account would be permanently disabled.
Party spokesperson Atul Londhe posted on X: "Another blatant example of dictatorship! Today, the Instagram account of Maharashtra Congress (@INCMaharashtra) has been suspended."
"Those in power have already taken control of the media, and now they are trying to crush the strong voice of the opposition on social media as well. But we are not going to be intimidated! No one can 'suspend' or 'delete' the voice of truth," Londhe alleged in his post.
He also recalled how an Instagram reel featuring Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay were also deleted "as part of a conspiracy"....
