Mumbai, Sept. 22 -- Members of cooperative housing societies in Maharashtra will now have to pay Rs.5 per page, up from Rs.2, for photocopies of documents maintained by their societies, under a revised fee structure issued by the Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies on Thursday. The change covers around 1.4 lakh registered societies, including nearly 85,000 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The revision pertains to Section 154B-8 of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960, which gives society members the right to inspect several key records maintained by their housing societies. The Rs.5 charge applies to physical copies of these and other relevant records. Societies must provide copies within 45 days of receiving the fee, or 30 days if they have received government assistance. The move aims to standardise photocopying charges.
