Mumbai, Sept. 2 -- A security guard at Vile Parle's Cooper Hospital has been issued a show-cause notice after asking two women to remove their burqas during a security check at the civic-run hospital. The incident took place on August 30, when the women had gone to visit the neonatal ward. One of them, advocate Jahanara Shaikh, objected to the request and recorded a video, which subsequently went viral. Dr Chhaya Shinde, dean of Cooper Hospital, said the staff from the BMC's security team keeps changing every 10 days, making it difficult to train them. "It was a case of miscommunication. The staff should simply have asked them to show their faces or lift their veils for easier identification. Child-lifting cases at the hospital had prompted stricter security measures to ensure the safety of newborn babies. We are now training our staff on how to handle visitors," said Shinde.
