hit-and-run accident kills pillion rider in Kalamboli
Navi Mumbai, April 30 -- A 35-year-old man from Panvel was killed in a hit-and-run accident at the Kalamboli circle on JNPT Road in the early hours of Tuesday, after an unidentified vehicle rammed into the two-wheeler he was riding pillion.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 3 am on Tuesday near a bridge at Dhakata Khanda village on the T-Point-Kalamboli Circle stretch. The victim, Sumit Baliram Tarekar, was travelling as a pillion rider on a scooter being driven by his friend, Santosh Kubal. The duo was heading towards Kalamboli Circle when a speeding vehicle allegedly struck their scooter and fled the scene. "Tarekar sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead at the spot," said a police officer.
Based on a complaint by the victim's uncle, Ramesh Namdev Tarekar, 46, the police registered a case against the unidentified driver. HTC...
