HC refuses to urgently restore X page of CJP
New Delhi, May 30 -- The Delhi High Court on Friday declined to the immediate restoration of the satirical online collective party Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) X account, observing that the content on its page per se appeared to be "slightly offensive".
A bench of justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav refused to grant interim relief while hearing a petition filed by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, stating that any order would be passed only after granting an opportunity to the Centre and X to present its case.
"In previous cases and in this case, there seems to be slight difference. The difference in those cases were, some posts. They were found to be offending. In this (CJP's) case, what seems to be the reason is that the entire activity per se perhaps is 'slightly offending' and therefore we have to draw distinct between a particular X post and the entire action. Your submission, might have some substance," the bench said to Dipke's lawyers senior advocate Akhil Sibal and advocate Nakul Gandhi. "This all needs to be required to be considered 'holistically' after giving an opportunity to the respondent also to put forth their case."...
