New Delhi/Chandigarh, April 12 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the ministries of external affairs and home affairs, has secured the return of wanted gangster Sahil Chauhan from Thailand, the agency said on Saturday. The 27-year-old was deported from Bangkok and arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on April 10, where he was taken into custody by a Haryana Police team, officials said. He has since been handed over to the Haryana Special Task Force (STF). Chauhan, a member of the Bhuppi Rana gang operating across Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh, was involved in multiple criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, and the use of illegal firearms. He was also wanted by the National Investigation Agency. "On the request of Haryana Police, CBI got published an Interpol Red Notice against Sahil Chauhan. He was geo-located and deported from Bangkok and arrived in India. where he was taken into custody," a statement from the CBI said. Chauhan was wanted in connection with a 2017 firing incident at the Jagadhri court complex, where he opened fire at rival gang member Monu Rana during a court hearing.
