Four die in Rajasthan scrapyard blaze
Alwar, April 26 -- Four people, including two children, died and a woman was injured after a massive fire broke out on Friday evening in a scrap warehouse at a residential area in Rajasthan's Alwar district's, police said.
The victims were identified as Ravi Dutt from Haryana, Dashrath from Neemrana, and the children, Arushi(6) and Kavita (16) from Uttar Pradesh. Their bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, added police.
According to deputy superintendent of police Charul Gupta, the fire broke out in the warehouse in Neemrana after two scrap collectors tried to light a match to smoke while labourers were breaking discarded perfume bottles nearby.
"The scrap collectors threw their matches towards the yard, which immediately caught fire. Both men fled the spot," she said.
The DSP added that the flames spread rapidly and the whole warehouse was engulfed in minutes. "Around half a dozen fire tenders were pressed into service, and firefighters had to struggle to bring the blaze under control. The presence of highly inflammable materials in the scrap yard intensified their challenge. Materials worth several lakh rupees were reduced to ashes," she said. Gupta said that police were on the lookout for the two scrap collectors who visited the spot. The warehouse owner has also been summoned for questioning.Police have detained an associate of the godown owner while the owner, Karan Singh, is absconding.
Former CM Ashok Gehlot offered his condolences and raised concerns about the guidelines to maintain such facilities. "The government must ensure protective measures for industrial units," he said....
