MUMBAI, Sept. 13 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested five persons on Wednesday after seizing 3.47 kilograms of smuggled gold worth Rs.5.47 crore from them. A DRI team intercepted a staff member of a private third-party entity, which provides operational support to airlines at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), agency officials said on Friday. Upon search, three capsules containing gold dust in wax form were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, he disclosed the involvement of a transit passenger and another staffer. That staffer was subsequently intercepted and he named one more passenger. The DRI team intercepted the two passengers, who arrived from Muscat and Dubai, and recovered five more capsules from them. In all, eight capsules containing 3.47 kg of gold dust in wax form, valued at approximately Rs.5.47 crore, were recovered from the accused.
