Firing at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence
India, Oct. 20 -- What happened: On February 1, 2026, around 12:45 a.m., two bike-borne assailants fired five rounds at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's house in Shetty Tower at Juhu. One bullet hit the glass of a gym inside the premises, but no injuries were reported.
Who was behind it: The Mumbai Crime Branch which investigated the case concluded that the attack was executed by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with fugitive Shubham Lonkar, also responsible for the Baba Siddiqui's killing, identified as the mastermind.
Alleged Motive: The police claimed that the attack was carried out to establish the gang's dominance over Bollywood and target Shetty due to his close proximity to actor Salman Khan. A subsequent audio clip issued by Shubham Lonkar threatening the filmmaker for Rs 20 Crore ransom, however made it clear that it was an attempt to extort money from Shetty and has little to do with Salman Khan.
Police action: The police have arrested 15 persons, including alleged shooter Deepak Ramesh Chandra Sharma and Pradeep Kumar Ramsingh Jatav who carried out the reconnaissance. The others arrested include Swapnil Bandu Sakat, Samarth Pomaji, Siddharth Yenpure, Aditya Gaiki, Asaram Fasle, Sunny Rakesh Kumar, Ritik Viond Yadav, Sonu Vinodkumar Thakur, Vishar Thakur, Jatin Bharadwaj, Vishnu Kushwah, Pravin Lonkar and Pradip Radhamohan Sharma. The planner Shubham Lonkar remains at large.
Case status: The police have filed a 1,624-page chargesheet under MCOCA naming 15 accused, including five Pune residents arrested for providing logistical support, and showing main conspirators Shubham Lonkar, Aarzu Bishnoi, and Harry Boxer as wanted accused. The case is at pre-trial stage and currently the trial court is hearing arguments for framing of charges against the accused....
