FIR against Maha Cong chief over remarks on Tipu Sultan, shivaji
Pune, Feb. 16 -- A remark by Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, comparing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Tipu Sultan, triggered a political row with the BJP slamming Sapkal and a functionary lodging an FIR against him in Pune on Sunday.
Sapkal was speaking to reporters in Buldhana on the controversy over the portrait of Tipu Sultan in the office of Malegaon Municipal Corporation deputy mayor. Sapkal compared the bravery and ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with that of Tipu Sultan, stating that Tipu Sultan had fought against the British and should be regarded as a courageous warrior and a "son of the soil."
