Mumbai, Sept. 16 -- Maharashtra's Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of the iconic Colaba pub Cafe Mondegar over alleged food safety and hygiene violations following an inspection on September 12. According to an FDA statement, food equipment was not being properly cleaned and sanitised, the drainage system near the food preparation area was inadequate, and the flooring was damaged by dampness, creating a risk of cross-contamination. FDA officials also found that hot food items were not being stored at the required temperature above 60degC, and that cold storage was not being maintained below 5degC. Food items were being thawed improperly, while cooked food was not being cooled rapidly as required, the statement said. Established in 1932, Cafe Mondegar began as an Irani cafe before being converted into a restaurant and bar in the 1990s. It was among the first restaurants in the city to introduce a jukebox in the mid-90s, but is perhaps best known for the colourful murals by cartoonist Mario Miranda that cover its walls and ceiling. HT tried contacting the restobar's managing partner, Hoshang Yazdegardi, but he did not respond. The FDA also suspended the licences of Maharashtra Biryani Centre in Kandivali East, Tribhuvan Dairy Farm in Ghatkopar West, and Mahavir Cashew & Foods in Ghatkopar East for alleged violations of mandatory hygiene and sanitation rules. The regulator also took action against nine other food establishments in Mumbai, including Ruhafza Bakery in Khar, Chandru's Pure Ghee Sweets and Sharma Dairy & Fast Food in Andheri West, Punjabi Chandu Halwai at Grant Road, Shri Narayan Dairy in Vile Parle, and Gulshan Dairy Farm in Khar....
