DY Patil Stadium set for upgrade; will be shut for 18-20 months
Mumbai, Oct. 8 -- The DY Patil Stadium, one of the country's most modern and well-maintained stadiums that has witnessed many epic moments in Indian cricket and sport, is set for a massive upgrade largely focused on making the stadium even more spectator-friendly.
Work on renovating the stadium in Navi Mumbai's Nerul has already started, and is expected to go on for 18-20 months. Cricket matches, as well as other sporting and non-sporting events, will not take place in the stadium through this period.
The primary focus of the renovation is to have additional washrooms and expanded food areas on the second and third levels, an official associated with the stadium said. Earlier, washroom facilities were primarily available on the first level. This will help spectators access food and washroom facilities without having to move between floors.
The pavilion area will also be refurbished to create additional space for players, officials and spectators, the official added. "The existing spectator-area structure will remain the same," the official said.
The DY Patil Stadium has hosted major cricket tournaments, like the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup that India won, and football tournaments, like the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2017....
