THANE, Oct. 6 -- A stray dog was allegedly beaten with a bat by two residents at a housing complex in Dombivli East and later hanged to death by a security guard early Saturday. Police have booked the three individuals on Monday. The incident at Suresh Complex Society in Sagarli came to light after a resident recorded it and the video was circulated on social media, police said.
According to Manpada police, the dog was allegedly rabid and had bitten two to three people in the complex and nearby areas.
Police said that around 12.30am, residents Onkar Kendre and Tushar Kendre allegedly assaulted the dog with a bat on the premises of the society. The building's watchman, identified as Prakash, allegedly then tied a rope around the dog's neck and hanged it.
A resident recorded the incident on his mobile phone and later lodged a complaint with Manpada police.
Sandipan Shinde, senior police inspector at Manpada police station, said the accused had been booked under Section 325 of the BNS and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, including Section 11(1)(a)....
