MUMBAI, Oct. 27 -- A city doctor and two businessmen testified before a special NIA court on Monday regarding WhatsApp calls received from fugitive gangster Javed Patel, alias Javed Chikna, a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The testimonies were part of the 2021 Thane fake currency case linked to the D-Company, where accused individuals allegedly acted under the instructions of Chikna-a Pakistan-based handler initially known as "Uncle." Dr Akhtar Amir Ansari, 61, testified that he had known Chikna for decades as a neighbour and patient, having previously treated his wounds after the Babri Masjid riots. Ansari identified Chikna as the person who called him via WhatsApp from a Malaysian (+60) number. Investigators later traced the IP addresses to Pakistan, confirming the calls were routed from there. Real estate agent Firoz Fazalhusain Shaikh testified that Chikna repeatedly called him on WhatsApp in 2021, demanding money under threat of death. After approaching Mira Road police, Shaikh received protection. He later learned from Mumbai Police's Anti-Extortion Cell that an arrested individual, Arafat Lokhandwala (alias Guddu), possessed photographs of Shaikh and his vehicle. The NIA subsequently questioned Shaikh while he was in custody for an unrelated matter. Nameplate business owner Mohammad Tehsin Shaikh stated that local shopkeepers had reported Guddu to the police for extortion. After learning of the complaint, Guddu took Tehsin's phone. A caller identifying himself as Javed subsequently called Tehsin twice, asking to speak with Guddu. Tehsin was not cross-examined. Sushilkumar Mohata, an angadia worker, testified regarding cash transactions linked to the case. On November 15, 2021, Riyaz Shikilkar brought him Rs.1.83 lakh at Mumbai's Mumbadevi Safe Deposit Vault following instructions from businessman Suresh Kabra. Mohata stored the cash in locker No 937 and later handed it to Kabra's wife, though he denied knowing the transaction's purpose. Vault staff confirmed Riyaz's visit but noted the locker access was unrecorded. The case began on November 17, 2021, when Thane police seized 149 fake Rs.2,000 notes (face value Rs.2.98 lakh) from Riyaz....
